CAR PARKING
|
INFORMATION [back]
There are two car parks in total. The first
comprises only a handful of spaces, and is
located directly adjacent to our shop
and 1817 cafe bar/restaurant.
The second is larger - comprising roughly 30
spaces - and can be reached via a
second entrance, or by driving through the first
car park.
These are PRIVATE car parks, a fact stated on a
number of clearly visible signs. Also, large
signage on the first and second car parks
state (respectively):
"Car park for
customers using shop & restaurant only"
and
"This car park
is smaller than our customers' requirements.
Please remove your vehicle when you have
finished shopping with us, as did the last
customer"
In other words, the car parks are provided only
for customers who shop or dine at Noel Chadwick
Ltd. As soon as customers leave the shop
or 1817 cafe bar/restaurant,
they are required to remove their vehicles
immediately so that other customers can park.
FAQs (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS) [back]
Here are answers to some frequently asked questions
about the car parking facilities:
WHO OWNS THESE CAR PARKS? [back]
Contrary to popular belief, Noel Chadwick Ltd
owns these car parks and the land that they are
built on. Noel Chadwick Ltd is also responsible
for meeting all the costs incurred in
maintaining them.
WHO CAN USE THESE CAR PARKS? [back]
These car parks are provided solely for
customers of Noel Chadwick Ltd -
no one else.
I'VE JUST SHOPPED/EATEN WITH YOU SO I'M
ENTITLED TO LEAVE MY CAR AND SHOP ELSEWHERE IN
THE VILLAGE - RIGHT? [back]
WRONG. As soon as customers leave our shop
or 1817 cafe bar/restaurant,
they have effectively finished shopping or
dining with us. So, they must remove their vehicles
immediately - just as the last customers did for them.
Some people who park think it's
acceptable, for example, to sit at a table in
1817 with a coffee - on their own, for over
an hour - while their
partners spend money in other shops on the
village High Street. We treat this as an abuse of our
hospitality and our car parking facilities. Those people who are identified doing this will
be politely asked to leave our premises.
I'M GOOD FRIENDS WITH 'ONE OF THE
CHADWICKS', AND HE/SHE SAID IT WAS OKAY TO PARK FOR AS LONG
AS I WANT [back]
This is an old chestnut! The reality is that
none of the Chadwick family who work in the
business give permission for any customers to
leave their vehicles and visit elsewhere. To re-iterate, our car parks are provided for
customers who shop or dine with US. As soon as
customers have finished shopping or dining, they
MUST remove their vehicles IMMEDIATELY to enable other customers to park.
OH COME ON! I CAN SEE LOTS OF FREE SPACES
- WHAT'S THE PROBLEM? [back]
Quite simple. These are private car parks and
they belong to Noel Chadwick Ltd. They are not
provided for the convenience or profit of other
businesses in the village. None of the
businesses contribute to their up-keep,
so we have to finance this entirely through our
own profits.
BUT YOU HAVE ALWAYS ALLOWED PEOPLE TO PARK
AND VISIT OTHER BUSINESSES IN THE VILLAGE -
WHAT'S CHANGED? [back]
No, we have never allowed this. We have,
however, turned a blind eye in the past.
Unfortunately, this generosity has been (and is
being) severely abused, and has started to affect our
customers' abilities to shop with us. This is
totally unacceptable. Therefore, we are now
taking measures to stop people parking and
visiting elsewhere in the village.
You may be interested to learn that NOT ONE
BUSINESS in the village supported our proposal to
extend our car parks, which we were going to
develop at our own cost, on our own land, for
the benefit of residents and businesses alike.
SO, WHERE DO I PARK IF I WANT TO SHOP
ELSEWHERE IN THE VILLAGE? [back]
Our advice is to contact the businesses you wish
to visit before you make your journey, and ask them for
information about their own car parking
facilities, or for directions to suitable public car
parks.
ARE YOU GOING TO EMPLOY SOMEBODY TO MONITOR
THE CAR PARKS? [back]
Yes. We have implemented manned-patrols of the car parks at
all times. This has already had a very positive
impact on keeping car park spaces free, which -
in turn - is helping our customers to park more
easily and confidently.
